Jesse Eisenberg took a moment to acknowledge his longtime friend and collaborator Emma Stone during his acceptance speech at the 40th Film Independent Spirit Awards. Winning the award for Best Screenplay for A Real Pain, Eisenberg praised Stone for her unwavering support, calling her his “fairy godmother.” Eisenberg shared how, ever since their work together on Zombieland in 2009, Stone has been his biggest encourager, taking the time to praise even the smallest of his writings.
“She’s the most famous person I know, and yet also the most dedicated to encouraging me as a writer,” Eisenberg told the audience, emotionally crediting Stone’s influence. Stone, who produced A Real Pain, was visibly moved by Eisenberg’s touching words. Eisenberg concluded his speech by expressing how grateful he was for her continual belief in his creative work, adding that her goodwill and success have been instrumental in helping filmmakers like him bring their projects to life.
