Tunde Onakoya, CEO of the non-profit organization Chess in Slums Africa, has broken the Guinness World Record for marathon chess by playing for 58 consecutive hours at Times Square, New York City.
Onakoya aimed to raise $1 million for charity to support millions of children in chess education.
Nigerians at home and in the diaspora turned out massively to support Onakoya as he attempted to break the Guinness World Record.
Among his numerous supporters were Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and hip-hop stars Davido and Adekunle Gold.
