Tunde Onakoya is showing love to Davido for a powerful gesture that went beyond music. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Chess in Slums founder shared how Davido, fresh off a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden, showed up early the next morning to support his world record chess marathon attempt in New York. “Despite singing all night to 20,000 people, he still showed up… A stand-up guy. A true legend of the Afrobeats movement,” Tunde wrote.
The Afrobeats icon later met with some of the Chess in Slums kids, an experience they’ll surely never forget. One of the kids, Mary, proudly declared she’s the first person from her village to meet Davido in person—and she’s not letting anyone forget it. It’s a reminder that moments like these go beyond headlines—they plant hope.
